Scott
J. Stahl DVM, DABVP - Avian
Dr Stahl graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of
Veterinary Medicine in 1989. He became board certified in avian
medicine in 1996. Dr Stahl is currently an adjunct professor in
avian and exotic animal medicine at the Virginia Maryland Regional
College of Veterinary Medicine. He is a co-founder and former chief
of staff at the Eastern Exotic Veterinary Center where he served
the greater Washington, D.C. area for the past 16 years. Dr. Stahl
is an internationally renowned lecturer on reptilian medicine and
surgery and is the author of numerous book chapters and articles
on avian and exotic animal medicine and surgery.
David
A. Crum, DVM
Dr Crum has finished his residency to become board certified in avian medicine and will sit for the board exam in the fall of 2009. He received his Doctorate of
Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2002. Dr. Crum is
a former associate veterinarian at Eastern Exotic Veterinary Center
where he did an internship with Dr. Scott Stahl. He lectures
for local avian and exotic interest groups and is a board member for
the Mid-Atlantic Assn. of Avian Veterinarians. Dr Crum's professional
interests include both avian and ferret medicine and surgery. At home he cares for 2 dogs, a cat, 2 birds, 3 frogs and 4 lizards.
Emily Hoppmann , DVM
Dr. Hoppmann attended the University of South Carolina, where she studied Biology and Chemistry. She attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, where she focused on small animal and exotic animal medicine and surgery. Dr Hoppmann practiced at a predominantly exotic animal veterinary clinic in Goose Creek, SC for her first year of practice, then moved back to her hometown of Columbia,SC where she worked at a small animal and exotic clinic for the past three years. She is currently a pre-vet advisor for the University of South Carolina. Dr Hoppmann began her internship here at SEAVS in October, 2008 with the goal of becoming board certified in avian and small mammal medicine. Emily has rescued three cats, two dogs, a three-legged box turtle, a cockatoo and a fish.
Jen
Hutchins, LVT
Jennifer started working with exotics in 1986 at a petshop in high school. She then became a dog groomer while going to school to become a veterinary technician. Jennifer graduated from the NVCC veterinary technology program in 1994. She did an externship with Dr Stahl prior to graduation and has worked with him and exotic animals ever since. Currently, she is the board technician representative for the Mid-Atlantic
Assn. of Avian Veterinarians. Jennifer has been practice manager here at SEAVS since we opened in 2003. At home, she cares
for 3 dogs, a cat, a macaw, 2 budgies, 1 sand boa, 2 tortoises, 3 tarantulas, 3 guinea pigs, 2 leopard geckos, a leaf -tail gecko, 7 betas, 6 pigeons and 2 kids.
Alison Szalkowski-Smith, RN
Alison began working as a veterinary technician in 1994. She has worked with many kinds of animals over the past 10 years, but has a special place in her heart for exotics. Alison also volunteered with the Marine Animal Rescue Team at the National Aquarium in Baltimore from 1995-1997 where she helped rehabilitate many seals, dolphins and sea turtles. Alison graduated from Fredrick Community College nursing school in 2003 and now is pursuing her nurse practitioner’s license. She currently lives with 3 cats, Streaks, Isabella and Macy , a Cuban rock iguana named Ethel, and a scarlett macaw, Sunshine.
Alissa Pritchard, LVT
Alissa graduated from the NVCC veterinary technology program in May 2004. She has been working professionally in veterinary medicine for 3 years and has a lifetime of experience with animals from her vast array of pets. Alissa has always taken in sick and neglected animals and currently lives with 3 rats, 2 monitors, a uromastyx, a bourke's parakeet, 2 canarys, a water dragon, a bearded dragon, 3 leopard geckos, a crested gecko, a white spot gecko, a king snake, a sand boa, a chameleolis and a cat. Alissa loves reptiles, but is affectionately known as “Rat Girl” reflecting her strong interest in rat husbandry and rehabilitation.
Anibal Armendaris, LVT
Anibal graduated from the NVCC veterinary technology program in May 2007. He has been interested in exotic animals most of his life and has worked with them professionally for the last 3 years. Throughout his life he has had the opportunity to travel to various parts of the world to study and observe a wide variety of exotic animal species in their natural environment. He currently manages and cares for Dr Stahl's personal reptile collection. Anibal lives with a corn snake, a ball python, a central american boa, a dummerils boa, a jaya carpet python and a tarantula.
Danya Mandery
Danya has been working in small animal veterinary medicine since 1997. Her specialty was client communication and she managed a large reception staff. She also helped out with local pit bull rescue leagues.Danya decided to come work with us here at SEAVS in 2005 in order to get more experience with exotic animals. She has been a huge asset to us here at SEAVS and has taken over as our reception manager. At home, Danya lives with her american bull dog, a cat, a sand boa, a red foot tortoise, a crested gecko, a hognose snake, a hamster and a ball python.
Kathy Bafkas
Kathy graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2006 with a B.S. in Animal Science. She did an internship at the National Aquarium in Baltimore and with Dr William Hare at the USDA/BARC in Beltsville, MD where she assisted with C-sections of cloned calves. Kathy worked as veterinary technician for 6 years at a small animal practice in MD. She also worked on an educational farm and nature center giving livestock and wildlife presentations to visitors. At home, Kathy lives with her American bulldog Bull, a bulldog Cookie, a Frilled lizard (with 3 legs), a greek tortoise, a quaker parrot, a senegal parrot, a double yellow headed amazon, 5 lovebirds, 1 budgie and a baby crested gecko
Camille Richardson 
Camille Started here at SEAVS in 2006 after working as a small mammal specialist and team leader at a local petshop chain. Here, she works as a receptionist and helps out the doctors and technicians when needed. Camille currently attends NVCC and plans to transfer to Mongomery College in 2009 where she hopes to pursue an English and Animal sciences degree. She has been interested in exotic animals for years and enjoys educating others about the care of their unique pets. At home, her apartment is totally run by her rainbow lory. He allows her to share the space with him, her cat, rabbit and bearded dragon.
Zack Romeo
Zack worked with Dr Stahl and Jen at EEVC and has finially come to join the team here at SEAVS! He is a great 'people person' and loves to teach owners how to care for and treat their exotic pets. He has been working with exotic animals since he started as a veterinary assistant in 2001, and then worked his way up to exotic animal technician in 2003. During this time, he received his General Studies degree at NVCC. Zack shares his home with his two cats, Sushi and Buddha.
