When considering what type of snake you would like to keep, it is important to research the different species and their care requirements before you purchase the snake.

Do you want one that grows very large? Would you be able to handle safe caging requirements for snake as it grows? Could you handle feeding your snake frozen pre-thawed rodents. Do you want one that is easily handled, or one to look at in a terrarium setting? What would you do if your pet snake bit you? Are you willing to make an initial investment in caging/lighting/heating in order to give your snake the most appropriate habitat? Are you willing to take it to the vet for yearly exams and/or when it gets sick?

Please consider these variables before you purchase any pet. Rescue groups are having a difficult time keeping up with the numbers of animals given up each year, mostly because people didn't research what they were getting into with their choice in pet.
